A genuine British Army issued thermal identification beacon, designed for mounting on Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) and other armoured platforms. Used by armoured and mechanised units for thermal-band IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) — allowing friendly vehicles to be recognised by thermal imaging systems without being visible to the naked eye.
This type of beacon was standard fit on British Army vehicles during operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and on NATO exercises throughout the 2000s and 2010s.
