The British Army Modular Sleep System (MSS) is the current standard-issue sleeping bag system of the British Army. Unlike a single sleeping bag, the MSS is a multi-component system that provides flexible temperature management across a wide range of conditions.
A complete set typically includes a lightweight patrol sleeping bag, a heavier cold-weather sleeping bag, a waterproof Gore-Tex bivy bag outer, and a compression sack. By using the components individually or together, the system covers temperature ratings from approximately +20°C down to -30°C.
